6. Dr. Death Needs To Win Shoot Fights

Steve Williams was hired for one reason and one reason only: 'Dr. Death' would be a fine (and realistically threatening) foe for Steve Austin somewhere down the line. The promotion's big challenge was prepping Williams for that run. Did they feed him babyfaces and put him on a winning streak before gunning for 'Stone Cold'?

Nah, they put the grizzled veteran with knackered knees in a series of shoot fights and just expected him to win. That'll work, lads! The whole 'Brawl For All' idea centred around Death's push, but it went belly up when Bart Gunn zoomed in out of nowhere to literally blast his way through the competition and win it all.

Meanwhile, Williams got knocked out in the second round and tore his hamstring in the process. His main event dreams went up in smoke, and the WWF were left with a legit hard nut (Gunn) that they didn't want. Someone really should've told Williams that this shoot tourney probably wasn't in his best interests.

Testosterone and macho pride got the best of everyone there.
