Long time promoter/manager/every other job in pro wrestling Jim Cornette is never one to be shy on his opinions and thoughts on the wrestling business. One strong take of his was ECW was garbage wrestling for garbage fans. He once said of the hardcore energy fans adored: "Instead of hitting people with furniture, they were hitting furniture with people."

Which is why him making a one-time appearance for ECW was such a shock for fans. He was tied into the Jerry Lawler invasion storyline and when fans saw Cornette inside the ECW Arena they went berserk. Cornette drew huge heat in the building that night with Lawler representing the WWF, maybe more so than any ECW Original ever did. Cornette only agreed to it on the premise Paul Heyman apologize to his friend Dennis Coralluzzo (promoter for NWA) who Heyman screwed over with the ‘Shane Douglas throws away the NWA Championship’ shoot.

Cornette said of the building “I have never been to a just more disreputable location than that sh*thole bingo parlour” and tweeted recently of the angle ‘The only real heels ECW ever had were me and Lawler, because the fans knew we really DID hate that goofy s**t they were doing’.
