10 Wrestlers Who Have Peaked In 2022
7. Matt Cardona
2021 was a pretty impressive year for a star once deemed surplus to requirements by Vinnie Mac and his Sports Entertainment juggernaut.
Shockingly winning the GCW World Championship from Nick Gage in a Deathmatch in the wake of becoming the most hated man in the promotion's history post-Jon-Moxley-fake-out, Cardona would set about leaning into all things Sports Entertainment as a way of inspiring genuine heat in the independent masses. He also incredibly became arguably the hottest performer on the scene for a time.
And continuing that unanticipated momentum, the one-time Zack Ryder only decided to go full Kenny Omega over the course of 2022!
Doubling down on his own Belt Collector gimmick throughout the year, Cardona went about picking up numerous indy promotion's straps, the NWA World's Title, and Impact Digital Media belt at one point or another in 2022.
In fact, at one point in April, Cardona boasted a whopping seven titles, even going as far as to note on Twitter, "Dear wrestling promoters, Please stop booking me against your champions. My suitcase is too heavy and is ripping. Love, Matt Cardona."
The social media superstar may have had to vacate a number of his titles due to an unfortunate injury in May, but up to that point he was simply having the time of his career exploding his suitcase and the minds of many a brassed off indy fan.
