New Jack, who made a name for himself in ECW, is known for taking high-risk bumps in the ring and for his stiff in-ring style. Another thing he's known for is shooting on his opponents, as there have been multiple accounts of him roughing up his opponents in the ring.

One such instance happened during a match in an indie promotion called Thunder Wrestling Federation in 2004, where Jack took on a competitor named William Jason Lane. The latter was reportedly inexperienced, with no idea how to throw worked punches, and landed a few stiff ones on New Jack's nose.

Jack didn't take very kindly to the mistake and pulled out a metal blade and stabbed Lane in the back and neck several times. Lane collapsed in the ring and tried to roll out, but Jack continued to attack him, which led other people at the scene to intervene and save Lane from Jack. New Jack received multiple felony charges but stated during the police interrogation that he and Lane met backstage and worked out every detail of the match, including the metal blade spot.

However, New Jack didn't spend considerable time in prison as William Jason Lane dropped the charges in return for working alongside and getting trained by Jack. Speaking about the incident in an interview, New Jack stood by his original claim and stated that everything that transpired in the ring was a work and that he only stabbed Lane nine times and not sixteen times, as said in the news.
