10 Wrestlers Who Knew They Were DOOMED On Day One
2. Michael McGillicutty
Imagine this: Bryan Danielson's son Buddy grows up to become a pro wrestler. WWE signs him, but instead of mentioning his father, they decide to call him Chad McElroy and pretend that he doesn't have any lineage to speak of. That's kinda what they did with Curtis Axel during those original NXT shows in 2010.
Mr. Perfect's boy became "Michael McGillicutty" and cut one of the most tragic promos WWE television has ever witnessed. Generally, rambling is a bad idea on the mic anyway, but Mikey took things one step further with this gem of a line:
"...And starting this moment…from now…from this moment on…this will be the moment…starting now…of the Genesis…of McGillicutty.”
Even Matt Striker (who was hosting the promo train) looked baffled in the background. McGillicutty was a rotten surname for any wrestler, let alone one who could've been called Hennig! This inauspicious introduction also rocked the man's confidence.
Not even Paul Heyman and an IC Title reign could save him years later.
