Note to any future WWE employees: Do not take someone who might totally upstage you and steal attention to your own interview. That's what Marc Mero did back in 1996, and it kickstarted a trend that'd come to define his entire stint with the promotion.

Basically, Vince McMahon, Vince Russo, Jim Ross, Bruce Prichard and virtually everybody else in the meeting cared more about who Sable was than Marc. She was the clear star of the package, not him, and that doomed Mero to stand in his wife's shadow forevermore.

Sable-mania was born that day.

McMahon did want Marc to succeed, but he also wanted to showcase Sable on telly and explore her potential as a standalone star too. It wasn't long before fans treated her like the real deal and poor Mero like a background distraction.

Marc had to see this happening before his eyes during that very first meeting.
