10 Wrestlers Who Literally Destroyed The Ring

Big Show Braun Strowman Ring Collapse

WWE’s first notable ring collapse spot came on a June 2003 episode of SmackDown, when Brock Lesnar was wrestling the Big Show. As is always the case with these incidents, it came through a top rope Superplex, and as soon as the 500-pound Show hit the canvas, his and Lesnar’s combined weight forced the ring to give in on itself.

It was a shocking moment, and something that had never been seen before. As a result, it lives on as an iconic part of both of their legacies, and for years, Show and Lesnar both maintained that it was unplanned. This helped sell its legitimacy, though Show later admitted that it was pre-planned, like many had expected all along.

It was an incredible visual, and while Lesnar was already established as one of WWE’s most dominant monsters at the time, the collapse helped maintain his aura. It could be argued that WWE’s two recreations of the spot have devalued the original, and now that we’ve seen it thrice, the stunt isn’t quite as impressive as it used to be. Still, it looked amazing at the time.
