Little known fact: Byron Saxton was, in fact, a wrestler before becoming a commentator. However, you would never know that if you just watched Raw or SmackDown because he never made it past NXT.

He had a brief stint as a commentator for the ECW brand before the brand's demise in early 2010. From there, he transitioned into the role of a wrestler on the fourth season of NXT, being paired with Chris Masters as his pro. Despite showing some personality, he was eliminated fourth from the competition.

Saxton returned to TV in 2012 as a commentator for the NXT brand where he's been ever since. Despite being behind the booth for well over five years, he has shown no signs of getting better. He isn't terrible by any means, but he comes across as being too bland and doesn't stand out like Tom Phillips, Renee Young and even Rich Brennan do.

He was given the opportunity of a lifetime to call the action by himself in the wake of Brock Lesnar's destruction on the March 30 edition of Raw, but fell flat; Jerry Lawler had to be sent out to ringside to save him and the broadcast. He's been featured on SmackDown, NXT and "Superstars" as of late, but he's better off behind the scenes working as an interviewer rather than as an announcer.
