10 Wrestlers Who Managed To Get Themselves Out Of Terrible Ideas
9. Ric Flair
More than 25 years later, former WCW president Jim Herd is infamous for poor decision making, and none of his awful ideas compared to what he wanted to do to Ric Flair. Apparently, Herd simply didn't "get" what made Flair so popular, so after trying (unsuccessfully) to get Flair to agree to a pay cut, the president proposed an idea that he thought would make "The Nature Boy" more relevant.
Herd's idea was to have Flair shave his head, get an earring, and change his name to "Spartacus" - basically, completely redo a character that had worked for well over a decade just to "change with the times." Flair, smartly, refused, so Jim Herd fired him - despite the fact that Flair was the WCW World Heavyweight Champion.
Things turned out great for Flair, who went straight to WWE and won two more world championships during his 18-month tenure with the company. When his contract was up, he came back to WCW and continued to be a star, not having to deal with the very-much-gone Herd.
