5. Rey Mysterio or El Grande Americano

Once WWE acquired AAA, the clock must have been ticking for when Rey Mysterio could win the AAA Mega Championship.

The Greatest Mask of All Time is actually a AAA Hall of Famer, being inducted in the class of 2007. But he's never held the top title, having only won the Mexican National Trios Championship, Mexican National Welterweight Championship, and the Lucha Libre World Cup.

Mysterio is arguably the biggest legend in luchador history. At the very least, he's the top of the line out there now, and his time is running out before he calls it a career.

Everything is lining up perfectly for now to be the time he gets that title, considering it is currently held by his son, Dominik Mysterio.

For bonus points, it's worth talking about who should dethrone Rey after he were to win this belt, and the best option for that might be El Grande Americano.

If that gimmick is still as over in 2026 as it has been with the AAA crowd in 2025, he would have to be one of the options worth exploring, along with possibly El Hijo del Vikingo.

If not, Americano could win the Latin American Championship or something else to capitalize on his fandom in AAA.
