10 Wrestlers Who Never Let Kayfabe Die

9. Ted DiBiase

After a brief spell with the company in 1979, Ted DiBiase returned to the WWF in 1987 where, similar to Jake 'the Snake' Roberts, he was handed a gimmick by Vince McMahon that would bleed through into his everyday life.

Don’t feel too sorry for him though, because DiBiase’s gimmick happened to be that of a filthy rich, peacocking millionaire.

The Million Dollar Man, as he was straightforwardly known, donned a glittering suit with gold lapels, was flanked by his bodyguard-cum-assistant, Virgil, and eventually crowned himself the Million Dollar Champion—complete with typically gaudy diamond-clad belt.

Of course, McMahon didn’t want all of DiBiase’s bravado in the ring to be undone by his actions outside of it, so he essentially bankrolled DiBiase’s living of the Million Dollar lifestyle.

Limousine rides became a common occurrence, flights were upgraded to first class, and DiBiase even took to entering restaurants and insisting on paying for everybody’s meal, safe in the knowledge that the WWE office would replenish every one-hundred-dollar bill he doled out.

Not a bad gig, by the sounds of it.
