Unlike many other independent stars, Colt Cabana seemed like the perfect fit for WWE. Though he was never the most athletic star on the shows on which he competed, his charisma and effortless sense of humor made him very popular on the scene. When his signing was announced in 2007, his fans were optimistic.

Like so many other independent stars who were ready for the main roster on day one, Cabana's momentum was halted by a long stay in development. Finally, in the summer of 2008, he debuted on Smackdown as Scotty Goldman. His new character made repeated reference to Cabana's real-life Jewish heritage, and suffered from lack of a push - in fact, he lost his debut match.

Cabana was immediately cast as a loser and spent the next six months making infrequent and unsuccessful TV appearances. He was finally released in the winter of 2009, marking two years with the company that were an utter waste of time.
