10 Wrestlers Who No Longer Work For AEW
9. Mel
Particularly in the promotion’s early days, AEW often flattered it’s hardcore base by trusting them to recognise debuting Indie wrestlers as stars. This had mixed results, with Excalibur often left to do the heavy lifting for viewers at home as the crowds went mild.
With Mel they took a different approach. The former Melanie Cruise had wrestled for other promotions including Shimmer, but was introduced in AEW canon as essentially a volunteer from the crowd. Mel offered to have her head shaved to join The Nightmare Collective, this despite AEW presenting no plausible reason anyone should want to be a part of the group.
After the failed faction’s disbandment Mel continued to wrestle occasionally on AEW Dark. Her last match was a win over Red Velvet in August 2020. Despite a lack of appearances Mel seemingly remained on the books for another year before getting quietly dropped from the AEW roster page.
According to a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Mel was enjoying success in her day job but she continued to work sporadic Indie dates throughout last year.
