10 Wrestlers Who Personify Why WWE Had To Scour The Indies

5. Mark Henry

Signed to a bumper 10-year deal in 1996, Mark Henry was someone Vince McMahon couldn't envision failing. Even in '96, there were fans scratching their heads over the size of Henry's contract, because he didn't actually know how to work a match when he put pen to paper. He did learn in the end, but has never actually lived up to the hype as a main event star. Many people felt 'The World's Strongest Man' would leave WWE when his contract expired in 2006. Incredibly, he is still with the promotion in 2015. Throughout his run, Henry has been asked to do a little bit of everything, but has also won the World Heavyweight Championship. In 2011, Henry was positioned as a top heel, although he didn't really draw a lot money whilst on top. Never one to pull in big ratings either, the man was nonetheless doing the best work of his career as a top villain. Creatively, it was excellent, but there was something missing from the package. Henry had been around forever in the eyes of most fans, so it was hard to continually press the reset button and expect them to embrace him as a star.
