10 Wrestlers Who Purposefully Deceived Promoters

7. The Boogeyman

The Boogeyman knows a thing or two about getting away with lies.

When auditioning for WWE's Tough Enough 4, Marty Wright decided to tell the company he was 30 years old. That was an outright lie - Wright was actually 40, which was five years older than the promotion's imposed 35 year old cut off point for entrants. They found out he was full of it after asking to see his ID.

Wright was cut from the competition immediately and could easily have become nothing more than a laughing stock that'd fill some time on one of the early episodes. Somewhat unbelievably however, WWE hired Marty and he'd go on to play the nightmarish character of 'The Boogeyman' on TV for years.

That's right, Marty's fib couldn't stop WWE from signing him to a contract. They were legitimately impressed by his physique, and maybe even secretly admired his audacity too. His lie bagged Wright a lucrative gig and a lengthy on/off run as a niche gimmick.
