10 Wrestlers Who Purposefully Deceived Promoters
6. Ric Flair
Ric Flair surely knew that WCW would seek legal action once he showed up on WWF television with the promotion's World Title. When they did, he claimed that he'd never been repaid on a $25,000 deposit NWA Champs had to lay down, and thought he was therefore free to do what he wished with the title.
Hmmm.
In reality, the 'Nature Boy' was keen to stick it to his old employer any which way he could. He'd been left incredulous when then-WCW chief Jim Herd pitched the icon shave his head, wear an earring and become 'Spartacus' instead (that is not a joke). In Ric's mind, it was time to have some fun - that's why he took the belt to WCW's competition.
Flair didn't feel the need to inform WCW that he still had the title, nor did he feel the need to inform them that he was WWF bound. Instead, Ric showed up on Vince McMahon's programming and proclaimed himself the "real World Champion" just to wreak havoc.
