10 Wrestlers Who Really Can't Catch A Break

4. Nikki Cross

When Nikki Cross made her NXT debut as a part of the much-missed SAnitY faction, even the most optimistic of fans foresaw a low ceiling. The group was entertaining but limited, and Cross may have been the best example of that. The wild animal gimmick can only go so far, especially when it is largely used on the outside of the ring as male competitors do battle inside. Cross eventually got to do decent work in singles competition in NXT, but there wasn't much hope when she jumped to the main roster in 2018.

Since arriving on the main roster, Cross has been joined at the hip with Alexa Bliss. The story seemed fairly simple in the early stages - Bliss was using Cross and would inevitably turn on her - but the chemistry between the two seemed to grow with every passing week. Almost out of nowhere, Nikki Cross was elevating herself to the position of top tier babyface on the women's roster.

Fast forward to the godforsaken summer of 2020, and Cross has spent much of it feuding with Bayley over the SmackDown Women's Championship. After a number of failed challenges, Cross earnt her way into one more match at WWE Clash of Champions: Gold Rush. Common sense seemed to suggest that Sasha Banks was going to interfere and cost Bayley the title, allowing Nikki Cross to reach the top of the mountain after years of struggle.

Enter the global pandemic.

With the virus doing the rounds in WWE, Cross was pulled from the show. Will she get another chance at the title she came so close to winning? Time will tell.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
