Bischoff can hide behind claims that the babyface turned up out of shape and "didn't have a good tan" on his '83 Weeks' pod all he likes, but this must be one of WCW's biggest regrets. Whether Eric and Hulk had reservations about how Sting was dealing with problems in his personal life or not, he should've gone over without their sketchy reverse 'Dusty finish'.

The build demanded it.

Everyone who bought a ticket to be there live or purchased the event on pay-per-view around the country knew one thing for sure going into Starrcade: Sting would put Hogan and the nWo in their place, win the WCW World Title and ride into 1998 as the company's top draw.

That didn't happen. Instead, Hulk pinned his shadowy kryptonite, Bret Hart got involved for some sub-'Montreal Screwjob' bullsh*t, the match was restarted and then Sting won. It didn't help that Nick Patrick's "fast count" wasn't actually fast either.
