10 Wrestlers Who Regretted Coming Out Of Retirement

Shawn Michaels is one of professional wrestling’s greats. Even when his backstage reputation was less than stellar, his in-ring work kept him in reverence.

It is understandable that fans were disappointed when Michaels and Triple H got the band back together for Crown Jewel 2018. Their opponents for the Saudi supershow were the equally respected team of The Undertaker and Kane. The poor quality match and shoddy bumbling provoked worse criticism than the human rights violations of the host country.

D-Generation X vs. The Brothers of Destruction was not merely a sideshow spectacle, using nostalgia pops to get the crowd pumped, it was the pay-per-view’s main event. While it was great to see all four in the same ring in 2018, the physical toll of their gloried careers showed in the match performance.

Shawn Michaels recently spoke about the match to the New York Post. While he described the match as a fun chance to be with his buddies, he expressed regret at coming out of retirement:

“All I can do is apologize to the guys. I think people have always been kind of confused with my peace and joy with the way I did things and that somehow there should be something nagging at me, something left unfinished. I think it’s hard for people to not always see me as Shawn Michaels and I see the entire picture and I know the guy who started as a 200-pound guy that wasn’t supposed to make it. So, for me, I compare that to what I did get the opportunity to do and it’s hard not to be happy about that.”
