10 Wrestlers Who Returned From Injury Better Than Before

8. Edge

Having broken out as a single star in 2001, Edge’s character became a little nondescript. In fact, much of his “singles” run was spent being shoehorned into random tag teams with the likes of Hulk Hogan, Rey Mysterio and Chris Benoit, and though the matches were generally very good, he was still a little short of establishing himself a true star in his own right.

During his partnership with Benoit, the pair had been set to team with Brock Lesnar against Team Angle at No Way Out 2003. However, a legitimate neck injury saw Edge pulled from the match before shortly undergoing a procedure to fuse his C-6 and C-7 vertebrae.

All in all, the injury saw Edge miss over a year of action, and though he did team with Benoit once more after returning, it wasn’t too long before he turned on his partner.

In late 2004, now a brooding, maniacal heel, Edge set his sights on world title glory. He’d soon win the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 21 before going on to successfully cash-in for the WWE Championship and become a main event mainstay until his retirement in 2011.
