You could argue that Lita’s popularity peaked during her time in Team Xtreme with the Hardys, but her greatest achievements in the ring arrived in the midst of her 2004 singles run – a run that came after a debilitating neck injury had seen her spend 17 months on the sidelines.

Strangely enough, Lita picked up the injury whilst filming a fight scene for a role in the TV show Dark Angel. Initially, it was thought to be a stinger, until a CAT scan later revealed that she'd broken three vertebrae in her neck and would be forced to undergo surgery.

Lita did make a brief return to television as a commentator during her rehabilitation, but it wasn’t until she was back in the ring that she really made an impact.

On 15 September 2003, some 547 days since her last match, Lita made her comeback on Raw, saving Trish Stratus from Molly Holly and Gail Kim. In the coming years, a full-time return to the women’s division saw Lita win three more Women’s Championships, with her most famous hour coming on the 6 December 2004, Raw when she main-evented the show with Stratus to win her second women’s title.
