10 Wrestlers Who Returned Under A Mask

In 1990, WCW's booking team had a problem.

They wanted a credible challenger for their babyface champion, Sting, but were determined to keep top heel, Ric Flair, out of the title picture. So, instead of building up an existing midcard heel, they decided to invent a brand new foe for Sting.

A vignette aired from "The Black Scorpion", a shadowy figure complete with a black and red mask. He claimed to be someone from Sting's past, which caused rampant speculation amongst the fans.

Everyone from Sting's old Powerteam USA partner, Dave Sheldon, to The Ultimate Warrior was a suspect. However, the real culprit was far more shocking than any of these and not necessarily for the right reasons.

Sting and The Scorpion headlined Starrcade 1990 for the world championship inside a Steel Cage. After months of taunting and trickery from The Scorpion, Sting finally defeated his adversary, pulling off his mask to reveal that The Scorpion was in fact... Ric Flair.

For various backstage reasons, Flair was chosen to be revealed as The Scorpion. After months of fooling fans into thinking Flair was gone from the main event scene, it turned out that he had been there all along and was Champion again less than a month later.

And this was years before Vince Russo even got near WCW.
