10 Wrestlers Who Ruined Gimmick Matches For Everybody Else

9. Bayley - Kendo Stick Match

What’s one sure-fire way to kill a gimmick match? Why, you have one of its competitors outright refuse to engage in the concept and unique rules behind the match.

That’s exactly what happened back at the Extreme Rules PPV in 2017.

There, fans were given Alexa Bliss defending her Raw Women’s Championship against Bayley in a match based around a kendo stick. With said weapon hanging above the ring, the crux of the contest was to grab the kendo stick and beat the tar out of your opponent on the way to winning the match and standing tall as the Raw Women’s Champ.

Famously, this match bizarrely saw Bayley refuse to embrace the hate (Kane™) and unleash any sort of kendo stick attack on The Goddess. And with that, wrestling fans around the world were left scratching their head at the sheer stupidity of all of this.

Why should fans ever care about a Kendo Stick Match when one of the participants of the match won’t use a kendo stick? Ridiculous.

It’s only now, two years later, that fans are starting to really take to Bayley once more – this having at one point in time been one of the most popular babyface acts under the WWE umbrella.
