10 Wrestlers Who Saved World Championships

8. Bret Hart - WWF Championship

Bret Hart had a few miraculous reigns with the WWF Championship. He had a sturdy reign to make the belt mean something again after a year of Diesel on top of the company, he had a great few months with the title in late 1997 before the Montreal Screwjob, and he even won the belt off of Ric Flair for his first world title win in 1992. However, the best reign of Hart's came in 1994 and gave audiences the greatest WWF title reign of that era, showcasing the exact style and characters WWF were capable of representing in the wrestling business.

His victory over Yokozuna at WrestleMania X came shortly after his match of the decade candidate with brother Owen, and redeemed the nightmarish ending of their match the year before. He would continue his feud with Owen throughout the summer, with their steel cage match at SummerSlam being one of the most emotional and critically acclaimed wrestling matches in history.

Over the course of his several months as champion, Hart redefined what a WWF champion could look like and his success as the top guy helped define decades of his company's programming.
