Having helped himself to a number of Royal Rumble records, including a total of 19 outings in Rumble matches and 44 cumulative eliminations, few could be deemed as deserving of a Rumble win as Kane is. Yet he remains without that elusive victory, despite coming close on more than one occasion.

Amidst multiple final four appearances, Kane’s best chance of ending his Rumble drought came in 2001 when he notched 11 eliminations in a single match before being eliminated by Steve Austin at the final hurdle.

For 13 years, Kane’s performance remained the most impressive the Rumble had seen, and with his popularity as high as it had ever been, it’s easy to cite 2001 as the year in which he should have won outright.

Of course, the company was intent on booking Austin vs. the Rock for a second WrestleMania in three years, which in fairness was the biggest-drawing match that could’ve been put together at the time. But that doesn’t mean that Kane couldn’t have won the Rumble, providing the icing on the cake of his record-breaking performance, before losing his resultant title opportunity in some pre-WrestleMania angle.
