10 Wrestlers Who Should Never Turn Face

10. Elias

Okay, Elias might find himself on the babyface side of the ledger right now, but only the most ardent of Drifter disciples will argue that this is anything more than a temporary slot. The self-obsessed musician who sings terrible songs about his opponents? That has been a heel gimmick since the beginning of time, and it’ll take a far more charismatic performer than Elias to change that.

Elias has confounded expectations since ascending to the main roster in 2017. The former Samson was largely a non-entity in NXT and many were surprised when he was called up so quickly, although it soon transpired that his gimmick was far more suited to the arenas of the main roster than the indie-on-steroids atmosphere of NXT. Elias quickly became one of the most despised heels on Raw.

Somewhere along the way, he turned face, a turn that came about when he squashed Drake Maverick and danced with Dana Brooke. Again, Elias has surprised all by taking the lemons of that turn and making lemonade, but this is a gimmick that is designed to antagonise audiences, not get them onside. The sooner Elias turns heel and stays that way, the better.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
