10 Wrestlers Who Turned Down WWE Contracts

As with Kota Ibushi, Zack Sabre Jr's inclusion in WWE's 2016 Cruiserweight Classic had many fans of independent wrestling frothing from the mouth at the prospect of seeing one of the industry's finest technicians exposed to a mainstream audience.

Sadly, as with Ibushi, it didn't happen - despite the best efforts of mate TJP. When asked why he turned down a WWE contract, Sabre had a typically intelligent answer. "It'd be like asking a musician, "Why didn't you sign with the biggest record label?' I'm just concerned with being the best professional wrestler I can me. It was really just a personal choice. This is my path."

It's fair to say, that unless a frankly ludicrous offer comes in, or Sabre is looking for a comfortable retirement way down the line, he won't be alighting on Raw, SmackDown or NXT any time soon.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
