Steve Austin would eventually admit that he handled business the wrong way when he chose to walk out before the 10 June 2002 episode of Raw. Austin's frustrations had been simmering for months, and he was apoplectic when Jim Ross informed him that he'd be doing a random job to Brock Lesnar on TV.

'Stone Cold' couldn't understand why the company would throw a match like that out on free television without any build. The fact it was a King Of The Ring qualifier did little to ease Austin's concerns, and he reasoned that he was in the right to treat WWE with the same contempt they were showing him.

The company publicly buried Austin for his decision making.

He returned in early-2003 and restarted his feud with The Rock before retiring from the ring at WrestleMania XIX. After that, Austin became an onscreen authority figure and has made sporadic appearances on TV ever since. He managed to mend fences with Vince McMahon.
