Acting as easily the most high-profile signature Tony Khan was able to land at the time of AEW's creation in early 2019, news of Chris Jericho suddenly making an almighty U-turn when it came to one of his most sacred unwritten rules caught just about everyone in the business, including former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, completely off-guard.

For years, despite rocking up in NJPW for a spell and proving he could still hang with the best of them, Y2J was adamant he would never perform on another U.S. wrestling show out of respect for Vinnie Mac, confessing back in 2018:

"I always felt like the unwritten rule is I don’t want to go into the states. I felt like that would be a real slap in the face of Vince (McMahon)."

Clearly sensing that he simply could not pass up on the opportunity to be one of the leading lights in this cutting edge promotion, however, Jericho went dramatically back on his word in the wake of appearing at All In a few months earlier.

Hilariously, McMahon also reportedly inquired as to whether Jericho could get out of the All Elite deal not long after telling him he should "go", to which Le Champion replied "No! You told me to sign it!"
