10 Wrestlers Who Were World Champions In More Than One Company At The Same Time
1. Dan Severn
Holding a world championship in two different promotions is impressive. Holding multiple championships across multiple promotions is very impressive.
Holding multiple championships across two different sports? Now that's something else.
Dan "The Beast" Severn is what would happen is Tom Sellick's moustache gained sentience, hit the gym, trained in MMA, and then grew its own facial fluff. A pioneer of MMA in America, Dan Severn was one of the key names in the early days of the UFC. He captured the UFC Superfight Championship in May 1996 and narrowly missed out on becoming the company's first ever Heavyweight Champion with a loss to Mark Coleman.
Meanwhile, Severn was having just as much success in the squared circle.
The Beast defeated Chris Candido in February 1995 to capture the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. Severn would dominate the NWA title picture before finally losing the belt a whole four years later. Few athletes can say they were top of the game in two sports at the same time, but Dan Severn was an absolute tour de force in both the NWA and UFC.
Add to this his appearances for the WWF and you could make the case that, for a time, Dan Severn was the most prolific combat athlete in the world.
