10 Wrestlers Who Will Never Work For WWE Again (And Why)
5. Alberto Del Rio
There was a modest outcry surrounding the whole Gail Kim and Vince McMahon scenario, but it was nothing compared to Alberto Del Rio's last days in WWE. A hard-working, reliable top star during his time with the company, the Mexican performer was outright sacked by the promotion in August, 2014. According to the wrestler himself, a backstage production worker made a racist joke about Mexican people, and Del Rio responded by slapping him silly. Stating that he gave the worker the chance to apologise before lashing out, the former World Champion said he had no regrets over the incident. There may have been a route back into WWE for Alberto Del Rio after the incident, but several things he said in interviews afterwards would not have helped ease tensions between both parties. Pretty outspoken about the whole ordeal, Del Rio said that hadn't been the first time he'd been racially abused in WWE. Quite clearly, racism is a touchy subject for many. It's not something WWE officials would like to have people believe happens in their organisation, but Alberto claimed it did regularly. Due to this, it seems impossible to see any resolution between wrestler and employer. As Alberto El Patron, the Mexican is currently making a healthy living for a variety of promotions, including AAA, ROH and Lucha Underground.
