Bayley went into 2020 as SmackDown Women’s Champion and one of the best heels on the roster. Her Bayley Buddies would’ve been waving in the rear mirror if she hadn’t mercilessly popped them.

Bayley proved she could succeed on either side of the face/heel divide. Unlike most heel titleholders, Bayley was a fighting champion, even if she did rely on the back up of Sasha Banks on occasion. Throughout the year, she took on all challengers, notably defending against Lacey Evans, Naomi, Tamina, Nikki Cross, and Asuka, as well as surviving a Fatal 5-Way Elimination match at WrestleMania 36. Between June and August, Bayley and Sasha also held the Women’s Tag Team Championships before dropping them to Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax.

After a slow burn storyline, Bayley turned on Sasha, and the two embarked on a much-anticipated feud, resulting in their brutal Hell in a Cell match. Bayley and Banks were awarded Feud of the Year by Pro Wrestling Illustrated, who also named Bayley #1 female singles wrestler of the year.

Bayley ended the year with indignity, as the first participant eliminated from the women’s Survivor Series elimination match.
