10 Wrestlers Who Would Have Made Better Managers
3. Santino Marella
I may have been a little embarrassed to speak of my Road
Dogg sing-alongs, but I’ve no shame in admitting this one; Santino Marella is
my favourite comedy wrestler of all time.
Everything he did seemed to tickle me, from his powerwalking down the ramp, to the more nuanced details like his mispronunciations and comical faux-Italian grasp of the English language. Sometimes I still find myself going back and watching videos of his failed pronunciation of John Cena’s name.
Much like the case of Bo Dallas, though, these highlights tended to arrive in moments that didn’t necessarily take place in the ring. He was by no means a bad pro wrestler—not by any stretch of the imagination. It’s just that he was so great with the rest of his character traits, and for me, that kind of greatness should be taken advantage of wherever and whenever possible.
Plus, with neck troubles consigning him to an early retirement, using Santino as a manger would mean we’d still get to see and hear from him on a far more regular basis. Which, to me, is most definitely a good thing.
