Goldberg was one of WCWs few homegrown stars during the Monday Night War and easily its most popular. He was undefeated within World Championship Wrestling for over a year -- racking up 173 victories before suffering his first loss. Goldberg was WCWs hottest star, but unfortunately for him -- and many other superstars -- the company closed its doors in March of 2001. Many of WCWs top-tier talents chose to sit at home initially, rather than go to the World Wrestling Federation. However, one night after WrestleMania XIX in 2003, Bill Goldberg made his debut in the WWE. He quickly became engaged in a feud with The Rock before moving on to a brief rivalry with Chris Jericho. His most notable feud, however, was with Triple H and his Evolution stable. By the start of 2004, many fans had deemed Goldbergs run with WWE a flop. With the former World Champions contract expiring after that years Mania, both parties decided not to renew the deal. Goldbergs final match took place in Madison Square Garden at WrestleMania XX against Brock Lesnar. Unfortunately, for Goldberg and Lesnar, fans had caught wind that both superstars were set to depart the company following the contest. As a result of this and a lackluster bout, the MSG crowd was quite vocal about their displeasure. Following Mania XX, Goldberg unofficially retired from the sport of professional wrestling. He has not wrestled a single contest since that day, instead keeping busy with other entertainment projects. The match against Brock Lesnar was ultimately a dull and sorry end to Goldbergs in-ring career.
