10 Wrestlers With The Most World Title Reigns

1. Ric Flair (16)

Of course, Ric Flair sits at the top of the table. It’s his record that John Cena has spent the last few months chasing, but has remained in-tact ever since Flair dropped the WCW World Heavyweight Champion to Jeff Jarrett in May 2000.

Flair’s world title legacy comprises of eight NWA World Heavyweight Championships, six WCW championships, and two spells as WWE champion. There are countless reasons why he’s generally considered the greatest professional wrestler of all-time, and his incredible championship record is a big part of it.

His 40-year career is unparalleled. He was as gigantic in the ‘80s as he was in the ‘90s, and rose to prominence while running roughshod through the NWA. Though there’s some controversy surrounding a number of seemingly unrecognised reigns, Flair spent a cumulative 3,000 days as NWA champion, with five of these spells lasting longer than a year.

Flair was always a major player in his first stint with WWE, though he was never as dominant as in NWA and WCW. Still, he mustered two stints as champion during his 18-month run, before eventually returning to WCW. Flair would later continue as a featured performer for WWE and TNA, but his championship days were dead and gone.

Nobody can match Ric Flair’s credentials. Even if John Cena eventually catches up to him, it’s hard to imagine a world where Cena’s legacy is considered as monumental as Flair’s. If any man deserves to stand as the most decorated world champion in history, it’s the Nature Boy.
