10 Wrestlers With The Most World Title Reigns
2. John Cena (15)
John Cena’s quest to reach the top of the pile continues. He might be his era’s most recognisable wrestler (and biggest star), but Cena ultimately failed in his quest to beat his total of 15 world title reigns after being pinned by AJ Styles at No Mercy 2016. With his career seemingly winding down, it remains to be seen whether or not he’ll ever reach top spot, but even if he doesn’t, Cena has much to be proud of.
It was clear from day one that Cena was a guy WWE had big plans for. He debuted in a spirited performance against Kurt Angle, and while Cena often looked a green, unseasoned worker through his early career, he has slowly developed into one of the best “big match” performers in the world.
Yes, he has an irritating tendency to hog the main event spotlight, and no, we don’t ever want to see “Super Cena” again, but the guy’s held 15 world titles in WWE. It started in April 2005, and ended with a loss to Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam ‘14. He recently re-entered the title scene after a long absence, and he’ll likely get another chance to nab the top spot before he retires.
There have been times where Cena’s been a loathsome presence as champion, sure. He’s always been a divisive personality, and that’s never going to change, but history will remember him as one of the all-time greats. It’s no less than what he deserves.
