Kurt Angle was a natural. The Olympic gold medalist’s untouchable amateur background gave him a tremendous base to build on inside the ring, and he took to professional like a duck to water. Rightly regarded as one of the best pure athletes in this sport’s history, Angle’s charisma, skill, and elite athleticism were immediately apparent from the moment he debuted in for WWE in 1999.

Kurt became WWE Champion less than a year after his televised debut, and held the strap for a credible four months. He’d continue to jump in and out of contendership throughout his run, and by the time he left, Kurt was a four-time WWE Champion, one-time World Heavyweight Champion, and he even had a brief six day spell with the WCW Championship.

As grand as Kurt’s WWE legacy is, he more than matched it over in TNA. His signing was a huge boon for the Nashville-based promotion, and he was immediately pushed to a position of prominence. Kurt’s winning habits continued, and after close to ten years with TNA, he finally left as a six-time champion earlier this year.

With 12 American-based world titles to his name, Angle is also the only member of the list to hold a major title in Japan, where he was IGF’s IWGP Heavyweight Champion for most of 2007. That makes for a total of 13 world championships across two continents.
