10 Wrestlers WWE Failed In 2022
8. Baron Corbin
Granted, there aren't all that many people clamouring for Baron Corbin to be positioned as a major player on either Raw or SmackDown, but WWE have yet again dropped the ball when it comes to making the most out of what Corbin brings to the table.
A reliable heel worker who can be a dominant bully to smaller talents, and who begs off at the right time for top babyfaces, the former NFL player was likely at his very best when he was under his Lone Wolf gimmick. That persona saw Corbin treated like a genuinely big deal in NXT before he likewise went on a tear upon graduating to the main roster.
Sure, the Happy Corbin schtick had its entertaining moments as Baron suffered a crisis of finances and confidence before regaining his mojo, but 2022 felt like Corbin was primed for a notable change in character. Once the split and rivalry with Madcap Moss was over with, Baron need something, anything, that wasn't just a rehash of what we'd seen in the past few years.
The game-changing answer to have Baron Corbin be taken seriously? Why, WWE opted to pair the one-time United States Champion with JBL.
While JBL is viewed by some WWE officials as being able to generate great heat, brother, the truth is that it's these days the wrong sort of heat for audiences to give a sh*t about. No, crowds aren't saying "booooo-urns". Instead, they're saying "boooooo, get the f**k out of my sight".
The way Corbin and JBL have been presented as a duo, it's now merely a case of two unbearable, channel-changing asshats rather than one.
