It was always going to be an uphill battle for Becky Lynch to replicate her success in 2016 - the year when she shared the match of the night at WrestleMania and went on to become the anchor of the SmackDown women's division.

Even so, the last 10 months have been kind of disappointing. Not only did the Irish Lass Kicker fail to claim any more gold, she didn't even manage any meaningful one-versus-one feuds either.

Mostly, this is the inevitable consequence of Charlotte being drafted over to Tuesday nights and taking the mantle of the brand's top face. The Nature Girl's presence is such that it's virtually impossible to resist the temptation to build the show around her.

For Becky, it's probably just a matter of biding her time. The expansion of the female roster over recent weeks suggests opportunities will be few and far between in the immediate-term, but the cream should rise to the top again over the course of a full year.
