9. Rusev
Rusev never caught a break in WWE. While he has departed the company now, his time in AEW thus far has felt a little disappointing. We can only hope that the brilliant Bulgarian star's future is bright.
When he did work for World Wrestling Entertainment, he found himself frequently on the precipice of greatness but held back by losses and strange storylines. He had some great title runs with the United States belt, but was always put in positions of looking unbelievably weak.
Constantly using his real-life wife Lana in the storyline to humiliate him seemed like a deliberate effort to lower his stock. The entire Bobby Lashley storyline saw him repeatedly made to feel pathetic and embarrassed but never ended with a satisfying redemption.
We know that Vince McMahon has trouble with understanding non-American superstars. This is evidenced by his rejection of Cesaro, Shinsuke Nakamura and many other foreign talents. Perhaps this lays into why he never saw anything in Rusev despite the overwhelming popularity of the performer.
Ultimately he is a wrestler that WWE seemed to love holding down.
