10 Wrestlers WWE Should Have Pushed More

4. Dolph Ziggler

As the late noughties rolled in, WWE became more and more guilty of a bizarre booking issue. When it came to potential new stars, the promotion would often start pushing them, stop completely and then, with less crowd interest, resume said push. Rinse and repeat.

There have been few bigger victims of this counter-productive practise than Dolph Ziggler. 'The Showoff' was seemingly tailor made to be a heel main eventer. He has some legit athlete cred thanks to his collegiate wrestling days and is a superb athlete who bumps and sells masterfully. He is also incredibly smug and annoying on the mic. The multi-time Intercontinental Champion likely could've been a great top champion who could make babyfaces look good in both victory and defeat.

Instead, beyond a brief babyface World title run that was wrecked by Jack Swagger's boot (and that strange episode of Smackdown where he was handed the World Heavyweight Title only to lose it to Edge), Ziggler never reached the top. He has spent most of his career bumping hard and ceiling-staring instead.

While he does a good job of making his opponents look good, it's clear Ziggler was cut out for much more than tagging aimlessly with Robert Roode (someone else who definitely could've done more, incidentally). In 2022, it's clear Ziggler's day in the sun will likely never come. It's an unfortunate waste of a solid all-round talent. Perhaps he was right some of those countless times he said it should've been him.

John Cunningham hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
