10 Wrestlers WWE Should Never Have Allowed To Leave

2. Maria Kanellis

John Morrison
Ring Of Honor

Coming up through WWE's Diva Search, Maria worked for the WWE from 2004-2010. During this time she was used for mainly gimmick matches, as a sidekick, or played an "airhead" gimmick. According to Maria, she was released because the WWE wouldn't let her do enough outside ventures including: movies, music, and TV.

In 2011, Maria showed up in Ring of Honor and NJPW and hasn't stopped since. Alongside her husband Mike Bennett, Maria has transformed her style as a more serious heel character that crowds absolutely love to hate. She is known as the "First Lady of ROH" and is usually one of the highlights in every PPV.

While her time with the WWE was still entertaining, it's too bad they didn't expand her gimmick and allow her to take those outside opportunities. It seems like many of their wrestlers today are encouraged to do those very things that Maria wanted to do just a few years ago.

Josh's work has been seen on Cageside Seats, Yahoo, and The Richest. If it's not pro wrestling, he's definitely thinking about cured meats and/or sushi, but never all three at the same time...that can get weird. Twitter: @HeelDoors
