10 Wrestlers WWE Tried To Push To The Top (But Failed)

9. Mabel

If you ever need proof of how creatively dry the WWF well was in 1995, look no further than the push of Nelson 'Mabel/Viscera' Frazier. Mabel debuted as a member of fun-loving stable Men On A Mission but abandoned his babyface ways and went on the warpath. Mabel won the 1995 King Of The Ring in one of the most baffling booking decisions in company history. After this victory, Mabel was set to face WWF Champion Diesel at SummerSlam. He lost the match against Diesel and was quickly replaced by The British Bulldog as the company's top heel. A lot this had to do with Mabel's recklessness in the ring. In the run up to SummerSlam he had injured several wrestlers, including Nash, and was then viewed as a liability by the company. Things went from bad to worse when Mabel fractured Undertaker's orbital bone during a post-match attack. It put the Deadman out for two months (although he did beat Mabel in a casket match when he returned). Mabel was gone from the WWF soon after but would return in 1999 and again in 2005. He would receive another push on the ECW brand in 2007 before WWE again lost interest.
