10 Wrestlers You Can’t Believe WWE Ruined

6. Sting

WWE wanted Sting for years - for what reason exactly remains unclear, given the bizarre fate he suffered in 2015.

He announced his arrival at Survivor Series 2014 by disbanding the Authority - for a bit. WWE retconned the idea of having Sting drive Triple H out of WWE when that would have meant driving Triple H out of WWE. The basis of their feud was instead reoriented to a tired, unwelcome and pointless Monday Night Wars retread which, of course, Triple H had to win. Their eventual WrestleMania match was tonally all over the place - was it a grudge bout or a flimsy exercise in nostalgia? If the former, why did the heel win a one and done affair, compromising Sting's valuable Blu-Ray stock in the eyes of the modern audience? If the latter, why was it the longest match on the card? If Triple H had to win against an ageing vet who "hadn't wrestled in fifteen years", why was he programmed with Sting in the first place?

Sting then lost to Seth Rollins in what was the only sensible decision surrounding what was, sadly, a match that couldn't keep up with itself. You can believe why WWE ruined Sting - he had the temerity to wrestle for WCW for an extended period of time - but this wasn't 2001.

It was a dire run that benefitted nobody.
