The man eventually known as "The Insane Luchador" departed AAA for Promo Azteca in September 1997, assuming the Super Crazy name that would define his career from that point onward. That is, except for his brief stay with the WWF that fall, in which he would provide another fresh body for the burgeoning Light Heavyweight scene.

Crazy's name was modified to "Super Loco", and he put over Brian Christopher and El Pantera on WWF Shotgun tapings that September. In November, "Super Loco" made the trip to Hershey, PA, where he lost an opening round tournament match to Aguila (the future Essa Rios).

In a year, Crazy would make his way to ECW, where he would immediately take part in a feverish rivalry with the previously-mentioned Tajiri.
