9. The Godfather - New World Order

Whether working as Papa Shango, Kama Mustafa, or The Godfather, Charles Wright was a solid presence on WWE's midcard for over a decade, accomplishing enough to be awarded a spot in the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2016.

None of this would have happened had his original mid-90s plans come to fruition. Taken off television following the 1996 Royal Rumble, Wright left WWE for a second time a few weeks later, working only a handful of independent dates throughout the year. WCW approached him that summer, and with the New World Order still in its infancy, the company asked him to become part of their game-changing group.

Wright was pitched the role of Hulk Hogan's enforcer, and quickly agreed a deal with the company, only for the rug to be pulled away while he was waiting for confirmation. WCW phoned the future Godfather to retract their offer, and he was left stunned.

Why? Because Virgil offered to fill the role for a third of Wright's price.

Wright eventually returned to WWE as Kama Mustafa the following year, while Virgil became one of the nWo's most maligned members. There's no guarantee Wright would've fared significantly better, of course, but it's hard to imagine him flopping harder than Virgil.
