10 Wrestlers You Won't Believe Are Still Wrestling
3. Tito Santana
What do Tito Santana and 'Cowboy' Bob Orton have in common? Both were trained by legendary Japanese mentor Hiro Matsuda - the man who famously broke Hulk Hogan's leg. Both had significant roles at the first ever WrestleMania; Santana opened the show against Buddy 'The Executioner' Rose, whilst Bob Orton seconded Roddy Piper and Mr. T in the main event. And both, unbelievably, are still working the ropes today.
In fact, after his lengthy and successful spell in WWE pittered out with the reductive 'El Matador' gimmick in 1993, one of Santana's most notable opponents on the independent scene was none other than the 'Cowboy' himself. Tito became the short-lived American Wrestling Federation's first and only champion when he beat Orton in 1994, and the pair collided for independent gold once more in 1996, this time for the USA Pro strap.
Both are still active (as we're about to discover), though their paths have since diverged. Tito, now pushing 70, wrestled an impressive seven times across 2019. The highlight, unquestionably, was a 2017 contest which saw Santana wave the toreador's cape one more time to subdue the rampaging Mantaur.
