10 Wrestlers You Won't Believe Never Had A Five Star Match
5. Brock Lesnar
There perhaps has never been a more believable performer than Brock Lesnar. His credentials as a combat athlete are almost too legitimate; since conquering the MMA world in a profitable, dominant but unfortunately truncated run in UFC, his WWE matches have sometimes suffered because they have been difficult to properly buy into.
John Cena grasped the evident disparity, and wilfully flung himself around like a rag doll in the best two matches of their trilogy, but Triple H wrestled him as if he was Randy Orton, more or less. But those who truly grasped how to oppose the Lesnar character in his current incarnation rewarded themselves and fans with brutal, believable and ultra-immersive spectacles.
Closest Candidate: Brock Lesnar Vs. John Cena Vs. Seth Rollins, WWE Royal Rumble 2015.
Leviathan was Batista's gimmick back in Ohio Valley Wrestling, not Lesnar's - but in a near-perfect match, Lesnar, having been destroyed via the announce table to precipitate an excellent and urgent match-within-a-match between his two opponents, rose from the depths in a terrifying sight. It was filmed perfectly - WWE is peerless in the production department - and his subsequent domination, mirroring his thunderously received opening melee, bookended a visceral and intelligently-worked classic.
Meltzer scored it ****3/4 and described it as "absolutely fantastic" - but stopped short of rating it perfectly.
