10 Wrestling Documentaries That Accidentally Uncovered Major Scoops
9. Vince McMahon: Not Exactly Honest
Who knew that a professional wrestling promoter who allegedly covered up a murder might not be the most honest of blokes?
Most people. Vince is a carny.
But on a 24 Network special, WWE in retrospect told the audience this in his insincere appraisal of Keith Lee, which was given to his face. "Look what I got here," Vince said. "I've got a hell of an athlete. Hell of a performer. Promo's good."
"Vince had me ready to deadlift 645 right now," an awed and motivated Lee said in response.
"Of course, we'll have to do something about that belly, pal!" Vince didn't say, out loud at least, but he said it to himself and presumably Bruce Prichard with a jocular elbow to the ribs. That explains why Lee was stuck in a singlet on the main roster.
In the weeks that followed, the bullsh*t revealed itself when Lee was reportedly dispatched to the Performance Center for additional training. He did nothing after cleanly pinning Randy Orton at Payback, other than going 50/50 with Braun Strowman, and was relegated before his long and debilitating struggle with COVID-19. This "hell of a performer" was a non-factor in WWE's plans subsequently. It's almost as if Vince McMahon talked b*llocks when the camera was on!
"Gotta make some changes and be you," McMahon also said, which turned quite quickly into "Actually Keith, just be a wrestler from the 1960s for reasons that are probably as cynical as you'd expect."
