10 Wrestling Documentaries You Need To See Before You Die
2. Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends: Wrestling
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHb7HDSSi_A A popular series in the 90's, Louis Theroux's 'Weird Weekends' shows charted everything from religious zealots to the world of pornography. It seemed only natural then, that the London-based film maker would target pro wrestling at some juncture. Visiting various hardcore independent promotions across North America, Theroux also wangles his way backstage at World Championship Wrestling, and it's hilarious to see how men such as Roddy Piper and Randy Savage react when faced with the lanky, awkward Englishman. By far the most entertaining aspect of the film for longtime wrestling fans, a behind-the-scenes look at WCW's Powerplant training facility gives insight into how the company hoped to create new stars. DeWayne Bruce, known on-screen as Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker, doesn't have a legitimate military background, but conducts himself like a drill instructor during routine exercises. A fair bit of predictability does creep in, as WCW's trainers look to make an example of Theroux for questioning the validity of wrestling, but the entire documentary is compelling viewing.
